Analysis Of Beat The Drums By Echezonachukwu Nduka

"Beat the drums" is the refrain of the poem that added to its musical rhythm. "When my heart warms my fantasies" means when I'm very glad "I wrestled my nightmares to the ground/ And gave sight to my blind vision" has "nightmares" and "vision" personified

"I am no loser", "I am courage", "I am posterity" are intentionally planted in the poem to show the poem speaker's positiveness, self-esteem, optimism

The stanza four of the poem not only portrays the poet's first person point of view, it also has metaphor, personification and simile:
"I am my own strength
I send my wrath to distant lands
Like lightening flashing from dark clouds
And thunder striking the enemies’ camp"

The voice of the poem further expresses his level of wisdom by comparing himself to those not brave enough to face the music of destiny:
"Those who pursue weak shadows
Are driven by gods of insanity
Cowardice makes their dishes
And wipes clean their illusive ego"

The 8 stanza poem has 4 lines per stanza though the lines didn't maintain any regular rhyme or rhythm except for the use of refrain.

The poem persona requests for the beating of the drums that will usher him the dance into his destiny. He sees the dance as a form of bravery towards the enemies, which is better than to be chickened into the future ahead.
