The Motive

In this article, I will be sharing the secret of how I grow Naijapoets blog hosted on blogger by simply using the advantage of having a WordPress.

I'm a believer and whatever my mind imagines, I seek it. Part of such imaginations is the ability to use blogger as if I'm using WordPress. Blogger own by Google is a very good content management system (CMS) and WordPress own by Automattic is also a very good CMS but merging both tools is much better than best.

The Definition

Blogger is a blogging platform Google has acquired since 2003 and it gives anyone who wants to try blogging path almost everything needed to own a blog.
On the other hand, WordPress is also very handy and attractive more than blogger in terms of appearance. I still cannot conclude which is the most used but most people always come out to claim wordpress is the most used; well, whatever.

Shhh! This' The Secret

WordPress has two things for anyone who decides to use it. (1) Readymade Audience (2) Automation.

When you sign up to wordpress.com, 1000s of readers are going to welcome you (but the content you offer them will determine whether your audience will then grow into millions or will decease to zero). As of the time of writing this article, I have close to 5000 readers on WordPress_ I'm still ruminating how to triple the number though.

In terms of automation that is free and hassle-free, WordPress has it. Some people might think its unnecessary to remind people of the blessings automation has bestowed bloggers; I can't help myself preaching such gospel. With the power of automation, things happen on your behalf even when you're fast asleep snoring. WordPress automation shares your recent article instantly to all your social media platforms on your behalf.

When you're using blogger.com, the only readymade reader is on g+ (Google's own social network) but it takes time to build readership on google+ and on top of that, google+ is the only automation readily available from blogger.

Now you can see clearly why everyone using blogger needs wordpress to triple their blog traffic and simply the hassle of blogging. The truth is that I starting blogging on WordPress.com when I realized that anyone who doesn't upgrade their membership will not be able to monetize his/her blogging effort so I decided to host my blog with cheap WordPress.org via namecheap.com but each year my hosting cost kept increasing so moved to blogger where blog hosting is free and blogging efforts can still be monetized.

In other to use blogger and still enjoy the goodies of wordpress, you need ifttt.com. With ifttt, you can link blogger to WordPress and whenever you create an article on blogger, ifttt posts it to WordPress and WordPress automatically shares the contents to all your social media platforms as simple as that; and that's the magic.

Question

Wole Soyinka dramatized _____ in the play Kongi's Harvest

Answer

The growth and development of political tyranny (option D)

Explanation

Kongi in the drama "Kongi's Harvest" was a wicked and selfish ruler. "There is a heavy, somber and pessimistic mood as the play begins. The king is endangered.

The omniscience in the narration depicts that nothing good will come out of Kongi's leadership over the land of Isma. According to the Superintendent, one of Kongi's right-hand men, Danlola's supporters have been gathering to desecrate the national anthem of the land.

Consequently, Sarumi and Danlola are in detention" [Click Here to Read The Whole Summary of Kongi's Harvest by Wole Soyinka]

The Author

Professor Wole Soyinka is more than a global icon but an immortal living among the mortals. This Abeokuta man is everything anyone wants to achieve via literature.

Wole Soyinka (the author of The Lion and the Jewel plus plenty other books) was born 13th of July in the year 1934. In 1986, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Poetry of this Era

In recent time, Poetry Open Mic is one sure way for poets to gain and maintain huge exposure. Permit me to put it this way; if poetry contests are Royal Rumble then the Open Mic has knocked other forms of poetry contests off the ring.

Poetry Open Mic

Should in case you wonder what is Poetry Open Mic? It is the contemporary form of oral poetry rendition. It takes away the boring act of reading and replaces it with the joy of listening.

The good news is Open Mic events are more lucrative and less cost intensive. All that is required is to a hall and recording devices. Such event can then be monetized by selling its CD or DVD or YouTube or podcast subscription or virtual pass.

Now that you have a knowledge of what this article is talking about, let's look at the common reasons why most poets shy away from this goldmine.

The Actual Sources of Fear

Most poets have the fear that their voices are unappealing. The truth is that most audience or listeners don't even notice whether any voice sounds horrible or not_ they're interested in the message of your poetry and the drama that come with it.

Most poets fear the the ability to control their voice from cracking or fainting onstage. The audience are human as well and they will sure understand you're probably a first-timer.

Most poets lack creativity. It is said that when you set yourself on fire, people will love to watch you burn. Exploring new grounds is quite adventure. You have always stick to writing poetry, maybe its time for you to start thinking of voicing your poetry as well.

Other flimsy reasons are regular use of alibis, excuses, negativeness, nervousness, dutch courage (narcotics or alcohol), etc.

The $1 Question

The question of whether poetry is a lucrative niche for freelance job has become many contemporary poets' nightmare.

In today's online-writers' jungle, niche like business niche, health related niche and finance related niche are the king in terms of potential returns they can push into online freelancer's purse.

Well, that doesn't mean poetry is a no-go-area; after all, most wise startup freelancers don't begin their journey with a single niche. They have at least two niches at their disposal.

The Bitter Truth

As I said earlier, all niches are not the same_ some are more lucrative than others but choosing the right niche isn't the only thing, possessing the appropriate freelancing knowledge is now a necessity.

Freelancing now has two phases which are the pro phase and the amateur phase. Most writers are missing out on the knowledge of how to become a professional freelance writer.

If you're a freelancer and has broad knowledge of poetry, there are many poetry magazines online you can always work with. You can find jobs here or you can simply allow Indeed.com to mail job offers to your email box the same way they do to my gmail box every week.

Why I Need Leads For Poetry Blog

Most people know me to be Samueldpoetry (the Leo with wings flying); the guy that loves poetry so much he sleeps with one bible and three anthologies under his pillow so as to dream sweet poetic dreams.

On the contrary, you might know that I'm into other part-time jobs (school teaching just to mention one) that give opportunities to blog regularly.

As a poetry blogger, I have dimmed it fit to seek alternative traffic sources to support my blog ever since I lost my googke first page ranking as a result of URL switch.

Part of traffic alternatives I use is LeadsLeap and the platform is awesome even as a free member because I easily use the leadsleap list builder tool to crop-and-harvest 40% of the traffic to this blog.

Benefits of Leads Generation

Actually, any blog owner can use leadsleap free to

(1) Advertise and get quality targeted traffic.

(2) Make money from its PPC program_ even you don't need to have a website to do this number 2.

Email Marketing

The easiest way to lose focus as a poet is to adopt the internet practice of email marketing; it doesn't worth it!

Oh come on, I was just joking.

If email marketing is in any way bad for poet or poetry website, then why is every poetry website so energetic about it?

The fact that every giant website (whether poetry or poetry not) is keenly practicing email marketing is enough prove that you (a poet) shouldn't underestimate the power of email marketing as well.
If you haven't taken it seriously, then I urge you to add email marketing to your priority list.

Email marketing might have some advanced expert explanations but the layman meaning is the practice of gathering email addresses as to notify the collected email addresses of updates or new content or products.

Actually, it's both hard and easy. It's both expensive and cheap. Without the necessary tools, it can be quite time consuming. [Lest I forget, kindly subscribed to Naija Poets Email List, if you haven't done so]

Assuming you're already in the practice of collecting email addresses, it's important to ensure you’re delivering relevant content to in-boxes if you truly want to personalize your audience experience.

Email Segmentation

Neil Patel suggested email lists segregation as the best way to personalize your audience experience.

He further explained that everyone who signs up to receive emails might have different interests at heart.

You need to learn how to write marketing emails that don’t get marked as spam.

Grouping your subscribers into separate lists will ensure they don’t receive irrelevant information.

Segmented email campaigns can result in a 760% revenue increase.

Recent studies show the differences between segmented emails compared to non-segmented campaigns.

Segmented emails have:

14.3% more opens
101% more clicks
4.7% fewer bounces
9.4% fewer unsubscribes

Higher opens and clicks paired with fewer bounces and unsubscribes put your company in a great position to increase sales.

Introduction

Megan Pryor in one of her lessons at study.com defined prosaic poem as poetry that is not written in verse and contains other poetic attributes, such as rhythm and metaphors.

Such poem doesn't concentrate on rigid metre count as seen in most poetic work; it concentrates on the story from scalp down to detail.

Robert Kiyosaki said, "Stories help us make sense of otherwise complicated things. They encourage, inspire, and even move us to take action."

Poem for Storytelling

I'm not the only believer in the power of storytelling. From the above quote, we can see that Kiyosaki also believes so much in the power of storytelling.

Why wouldn't he? He happens to be one of those who have sold the discovery of solution to the problems of entrepreneurship with a mere instrument of storytelling; yes, his books on investment, money management, business navigation have pocketed him multi-million worth of money. [This link leads you to spy on what Robert Kiyosaki is up to recently.]

As a poet, not all poem should be directional prone. Poems that are in form of storytelling_ even if not in prosaic form, sticks to the memory of poetry readers than poems that are absolutely melody oriented.

As simple and singable as Eldorado by Edgar Allan Poe, yet most readers cannot recite it offhand but every reader can tell again and again the poem title "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe.

My Storytelling Poems

As a poet and a huge fan of poetry, I have written all sorts of poem but my readers tend to relate better with those of my poems that are storytelling.

  • Detective Tel 1-5
  • The Remains of Raymond Hoe 1-6
  • Overcoming Gni Mocrevo
  • A Tale of Nonsense

On the conclusion to this post, I will like to note that every form or style of poetry is acceptable and good but currently, the prosaic poetry and the free verses are trending because they tend to win more readers' attention (whether poetry or not) than other pattern of poetry.

The worldclass speaker, Brian Tracy once said that the perception of an individual is his or her reality. People act on the basis of their perceptions of you.

If you change their perceptions, you change the way they think and feel about you, and you change the things that they will do for you. [You can't to miss out on this Brian Tracy's Book]

In this article, I will mention 4 "P"s that will help any poet improve his or her audience perception towards him or her. Those "P"s are Power, Packaging, Performance, and Politeness.

Power. The more power and influence your audience perceive you to have, whether real or not, the more likely it is that they will be persuaded by you to be gospel of your poetic work of art.

For example, if you appear to be a trending or reigning poet or writer, the level at which they will buy into your vision will be much more likely higher than they if they didn't perceive such power in you.

Packaging. This can also be referred to as branding. This is very vital in the area of your audience assessment and which will determine the way they will market you and your poetry to others.

Meaning that your packaging in the mind and heart of your audience largely determines how open they are to being influenced by you.

Performance. This refers to your level of competence and expertise in your area.

A person who is highly respected for his or her ability to get results is far more persuasive and influential than a person who only does an average job.

Politeness. People do things for two reasons, because they want to and be. Kindness, courtesy, and respect are far better than coercion.

Your audience tends to bend more to your side when you are polite. They will remain motivated to go out of their ways to help you accomplish your desired poetic goals.

Poetry As A Passion

People handle poetry differently. Those passionate with the art now have countless means of showcasing their passion; poetry forum is one of those.

Before I make a few list of the poetry forums I participate, below are the principles necessary for building audience on poetry forum.

7 Principles For Building Audience

(1) The Principle of Friendship
Your audience or readers shouldn't just be random people on the forum; it is necessary they are your friends or they become your online friends.

Study them, study their reactions, understand their expectations in terms of poetry. The best way to do it is to reach out one-on-one.

(2) The Principle of Direction
I can boldly refer to myself as a poet_ professional or amateur is not of importance to me. Though I try my hands on all sorts of poetry forms yet I'm considered a rhyme-loving kind of poets; therefore, my readers are those who cherish poetry that seems musical.

Having a well defined direction is a good way to build poetry audience.

(3) The Principle of Value
Make it a pledge to always add value to your audience and readers.

If the poetry you produce holds what, then your audience will linger longer until the case of readers who treat your poetry like a one night stand.

I will rather have 10 readers who engage or relate well with my poetry than 10,000,000 prying eyes pretending to be readers.

(4) The Principle of Referral
As a poet, your readers are your best asset; they stand in the position to make you or mar you. They talk, they react, they praise, they condemn.

If your poetry displeases your readers, they don't just neglect it instead they tell people how annoying your poetry is. If your poetry pleases them, they don't just keep it to themselves, they refer people to be part if the pleasure. My point here is that, don't just beg readers to share your poetry, give them the reason to do so by writing highly interesting poem.

(5) The Principle of Reciprocity
The fact of Do-Me-I-Do-You is applicable to building a lasting audience. You must create times to connect with whatever poem they have crafted. This is very important if you expect someone who gets to you to stick with you.

(6) The Principle of Availability
What good is a friend who will not be there when needed? Many organization and companies now understand the value of availability to the point that they don't joke with feedbacks and live-chat.

You can remain available by constantly publishing and engaging with your readers.

(7) The Principle of Time
Actually, this one is broad. It requires you determine when your readers engage the most with your poetry. It also requires time to build reliable readership amidst the huge competition.

Symptoms of Headache

If poetry is giving you headaches then you're not alone; multitudes are facing the same poetry headache as yours.

Have you ever seen a person having headache and smiling? One glaring symptom of headache is disgusting frown.

Headache patient don't just frown, they maintained a still position with obvious seriousness as if to memorize a rhythm of poetry resounding in their heads.

Headache and Poetry

When most people encounter poetry, they treat it like headache.

I will also like to add that the headache-like reaction is from those who only recognise poetry as a genre but those who can be considered as poetry lovers.

This has got me seek reasons why poetry give most people headache.

My search led me to quora.com (you probably must have seen or heard of the website before now). The good news, some counter reasons were seen on the question-and-answer website called quora.

Reasons Poetry Cause Headache

  • Most people develop headache when they come across poetry with strict end rhyme pattern; they feel such art make them feel they're still living in the era of Beowulf.
  • Most people develop headache with poetry full of clichés; they are too stressed by the affairs of daily life than to be distressed by chunk of words.
  • Most people develop headache when they see poem with typographical and syntactic errors some poets would rather claim to be poetic license.
  • Most people develop headache with poetry prioritized by perfection_ such poem aims to immortalize every veteran (Shakespeare in style, Edgar Poe in rhythm, Walt Whitman in structure, Sylvia Plath in diction).
  • Most people develop headache if a poem is intentionally short with stylistic excuse "this is a haiku". They feel such poet loves to boycott the intensity poetry as an art possesses.
  • Most people develop headache once a poem is way too long like a journey of thousand miles.
  • Most people develop headache when poetry is direct not two edged.
  • Most people develop headache if a poem fails to follow their own course; the poem they expected to be climactic turns not to be.

The Conclusion

From my personal point of view, all the above are what makes poetry to poetry. Therefore I have come to conclude that the problem is not poetry but people.

Human sees what they want to see, they feel what they want to feel.

The same poetry that make some certain number of people frown, will still make plenty of other people smile and can also make them smile and frown at the same time.

According to Napoleon Hill, "Thoughts are things". Therefore, my advice will always be to appreciate poetry wherever and whenever we see it; irrespective of the people who wrote it.

Poetry Audio Blogging

The question of whether a poetry blogger can move from printed book to poetry audiobook is about to nailed firm.

Creativity has expanded the scope of virtually every thing to a level beyond childish mesmerism; solid now becomes liquid and liquids can now be seen in gaseous states.

It is no doubt that a poetry blog can become an anthology or a book the same way many anthologies have now turned to blogs_ if you are yet to be convinced, check allpoetry.com, poemhunter.com or check my favorite poetry-archive.com.

Naijapoets Audio Blog Motive

Audio-blogging helps the life of a blog nowadays.
After all, not everyone prefers to read and read and read. In the case of poetry related audio-blogging, naijapoets.com.ng has tried mix audio blogging with the orthodox form of blogging and the outcome is very encouraging both for naijapoets.com.ng readers and the blogger.

To be candid, the motive is even beyond mere audio-blogging. In couple weeks, naijapoets audio-book will be released; hope readers embrace it. If the naijapoets audio-book trial version plays out well, then more encouraging stuffs will still roll in.

You Too Can Audio-Book

Anyone can create his or her own audio-book. Therefore, you do not need to own or manage a blog before such can be possible.

Those who already understand my story will sure agree with me that the act of creating a poetry audio-book is as easy as hell. There are so many audio-book services available; the likes of audible by Amazon, YouTube by Google, chirbit, kobo, draft2digital, etc.

The necessary things are your contents, your choice of audio-book platform, your budget, and few other things.
Draft2Digital Audio-Book Guide
Assuming you need a reasonably free or low-budget service, then draft2digital might soothe such aim.

The simple steps are:

  • Register or Log in to Draft2Digital.com
  • Click on My Books
  • Choose the book you want
  • Click the little orange microphone
  • Click on the Create An Audiobook button

And the rest is congratulations. If you are a believer, then you agree that creating audio-book is quite simple and like said earlier, naijapoets.com.ng has already embraced this trending audio affair and you will be chanced to see for yourself.

What kind of car is this?
I do no know.

Except the locomotive ability of this rickety thing
Hardly moving when moved

Driving the driver driving it,
I can see the driver sweating within it

Our nares and heads are filled with carbon monoxide
this rickety thing is emitting from its nostrils

And like smoke from the swinging thurible used in a catholic cathedral
The emission is spreading everywhere

And melting the ozone layer like fire melting a sheabutter
Ah! Every rich and poor African wants to ride a car; maybe rickety or rickety not they do not care

I blame you not my Africans.

Why didnt GOD build the ozone layer with iron rock and crystal
than making it fragile like a silky material?

What Is Sapiopoem

If anybody ask me, is there anything like sapio-poem? I will look such person in the eyes and say YES.

This is how I intend to support my agreement to the fact that some poems can be called a sapio-poem.

A sapio-poem is a poem that is absolutely driven by intelligence; notvthe motive of entertainment. I arrived at the word sapio-poem from the knowledge of the word sapiophism.

What Is Sapiophism

Sapiophism can be defined as the practice of promoting inner beauty than the physically possessed beauty. Anyone that practices sapiophilism is called a sapiophite.

Observation has shown that any poet might come up with a sapio-poem inadvertently; therefore, such poem is not necessarily for sapiophites.

Determining Factors

Below are the factors that determine a sapio-poem:

1. Context versus Content:
In poetry, context and content of a poem matter. The context determines the embodiment of the poem while the content goes in support of volume; yet, a poem can be called a sapio-poem if the poet rely on the beauty of the context but pay little attention to the volume of the poem.

2. Theme versus Rhyme:
Before a poem can be named sapio, theme must defeat rhyme. A sapio-poem is 90% likely to lack rhyming and any other sound effects as far as the message exults the poem

3. Diction versus Structure
Another notable thing is that the poet places emphasis on his choice of words which must prove the poet's level of wisdom but worries less about the structure of the poem. Therefore, sapio-poems are void of poetic license which might dilute the intellectuality of the poem. Modern haiku poems are mostly sapio in nature.

Other Factors:
Other tools professional poets employed might not be prioritized by the poet_ such as attractive title, rhythmic flow, prosody, etc.

The Authors' Dream

I strongly believe that every author and writer need the author to bring their authorship dreams to desired fruition.

Getting an anthology to its final shelves and readers is pretty easy now with the advanced technology and the efficiency of computer. With the help of Createspace and Kindle, Amazon has proven to be Messiah for this generation poets and writers.

Not only that, with Createspace and battalion of other self-publishing platforms such as lulu, smashwords, draft2digital, etc; authors have the freedom to publish and readers have the freedom to decide what's worth reading.

Indie authors now enjoy global distribution to major ebook retailers and library platforms. Thanks to the rise of the indie author movement, readers can now enjoy a greater diversity than ever of high-quality, low-cost ebooks!

Authors have proven that indie ebook authors can out-publish and out-sell traditional publishers, and they pioneered new best practices that traditional publishers are now scrambling to emulate.

You might want to read "Why You Have Not Published Your Anthology"

Author-shift Significance

Author-shifts are the essential actions for growth, progress, and significance. They’re the invaluable adjustments every success driven author or writer must make on their journey towards greatness. And they tell, not just when authors make them, but when authors miss them.

In a nutshell, the author-shifts are synonymous to publishing opportunities (whether obvious or hidden). It determines whether an author is on an upward shift or a downward shift.

So missing out on any publishing opportunity might not seem like much, but it reveals something about your attitude towards—and willingness to make—the necessary upward shifts that unlock your potential as a writer and as an author.
